The Children’s Miracle Network has awarded Dr. Baiba Steinbrekera a $50,000 research grant. Her grant application, entitled “Leptin Deficiency of Prematurity,” was approved for FY2018 funding. Dr. Steinbrekera is a neonatology fellow at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Her research has already uncovered nutritional intervention and other therapeutic initiatives that could improve not only the quality of life but also the life expectancy of premature infants, and this award will allow her to extend the reach of her investigations to infants born as late as 36 weeks gestation. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network has raised nearly $6 billion to improve the care of children across the United States and Canada.
