In collaboration with Dr. Ajit Vikram in Internal Medicine, Dr. Roghair will receive FY2018 funding through the UI Center for Hypertension Research. Their pilot grant will continue to define the role of intestinal bacteria in diabetes-associated cardiovascular disease. The work builds off the groundbreaking research of Dr. Vikram and colleagues (Nat Commun. 2016) and leverages Dr. Roghair's expertise in detection of the earliest stages of life-treatening cardiovascular dysfunction. With this most recent round of funding, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the Carver College of Medicine have committed over $700,000 to advance Hypertension Research.  We thank Dr. Curt Sigmund and the rest of the review committee for this honor.
